10 More Deleted Movie Scenes That Explain Confusing Movie Moments

7. Voldemort's Taboo Curse - Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows - Part 1

One of the most distinctive traits of the evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) is that practically every good-willed character in the franchise is terrified of speaking his name aloud, deferring instead to the likes of "You-Know-Who" and "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named."

But it's never explicitly stated in the movies why nobody will say his name, working more as a narrative device to convey how scared of the Dark Lord everyone is.

However, a deleted scene filmed for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 sees Hermione (Emma Watson) about to say his name before being interrupted by Ron (Rupert Grint).

Ron then explains that Voldemort's name has a taboo curse placed on it, allowing Voldemort and his acolytes to track anyone who speaks it.

This was mentioned in J.K. Rowling's book, yet curiously cut out of the movie despite its fair importance in the overall scheme of things.
