10 More Depraved Films That You've Never Seen

3. Don't Deliver Us From Evil (1971)

20241860ca2 This film was advertised by many as "The French film banned in France!" After a brief Redemption release on VHS, it was rescued from obscurity and given a Region 1 release a few years ago and I somersaulted 20 feet in the air in delight. This is one heck of a depraved movie - positively overflowing with depravity. There is virtually no gore or violence but the philosophy and outlook of the two teenage female protagonists - as well as their actions and deeds - are bubbling over with depravity. They may, in fact, have been sired by the Marquis de Sade for all we know. The two girls, Anne and Lore, are BFFs who board at the same school as well as being neighbours. They have made a vow to devote their life and deeds to Satan. Their antics include: arson, animal killing, seducing mentally deficient men, holding black masses, purveying pornography and manipulating men into doing whatever they want with them. These girls are psychopaths, they're totally amoral and have no conscience. Knowing that they are too evil to live in the world, in a dramatic piece of performance art, the girls set fire to themselves on stage at the annual concert whilst reciting a poem. A highly transgressive film, I cannot recommend this one enough. It is atmospheric and moody - veering into art house territory and it makes a big bold impact on the viewer.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
