10 More Devastating Horror Movie Deaths You Couldn't Look Away From
4. Seok-Woo - Train To Busan
2016's Train to Busan is yet another notable smash hit from South Korean cinema, taking place on the titular locomotive as a zombie apocalypse breaks out across the country.
The film's protagonist Seok-Woo is traveling with his daughter Su-An to Busan as this disastrous turn of events unfolds, precipitated by an infected passenger making their way aboard. The undead sh*t storm that breaks out in short order is one of the most enthralling zombie films ever conceived, the cinematic equivalent of a bullet train. The action is so fast paced and visceral that audiences literally feel exhausted after watching it - in the best way possible.
Tragically, a key element at the heart of the film's lasting success is the melancholic final sacrifice of its central protagonist. Seok-Woo is bitten attempting to put Yon-Suk out of his misery, sealing his woeful fate. The resolute father struggles on, putting his daughter and remaining survivor Seong-kyeong in the engine room and showing them how to operate the train. A resigned, yet entirely devastated Seok-Woo says a heartbreaking goodbye to his daughter, locking the door behind him as he leaves.
The anguished Su-An weeping and pounding on the door, interspersed with her father's flashbacks to her birth set against a tender piano score, make this a genuine tear-jerker of a scene. As Seok-Woo begins to turn and throws himself off the train to his death, one would have to be made of stone to feel unmoved.
