6. Spirited Away (2001)
Spirited Away, like most of Hayao Miyazakis films, has the unique quality of being an animated movie that has the ability to move children and adults alike, for both similar and different reasons. John Lasseter, director of
Toy Story and its first sequel, and the chief creative officer at Pixar Studios is a known fan of Miyazaki's work, and is
quoted as naming him the worlds greatest living animator. Like all Hayao Miyazaki films (besides
Ponyo),
Spirited Away has yet to be given the Blu-ray treatment, so it would have been justifiable to pick any one of his films for this list, because every feature the director has helmed is nothing short of brilliant. The animation in Miyazakis films are absolutely gorgeous in standard definition alone, so its not difficult to make a compelling case to release his films on Blu-ray. Preferably a Miyazaki-themed, Studio Ghibli boxset, perhaps?
