Also known as Final Prayer in some regions, 2013's The Borderlands has an absolutely shocking ending that comes just a smidge out of nowhere.

To set the stage, this Elliot Goldner movie has three men - Father Mark, Brother Deacon and tech expert Gray - sent by the Vatican to investigate spooky goings on at an old church in a small Devon town.

Before you know it, the local priest throws himself to his death, the townsfolk are burning sheep, and our trio are made to feel a tad uncomfortable in their mission. That mission culminates in a good ol' exploration beneath the 13th century church at the centre of all of this - with it explained how said church was actually built on an old Pagan temple.

The 'worse than death' fate for our central characters, is that their crawling through tight underground passages is revealed to actually have been them crawling through the stomach of some unknown creature. Rather than tight walls, it's a belly that Deacon and Gray find themselves in, with Mark presumed dead or possessed or something. As digestive enzymes begin to burn the flesh of Deacon and Gray, that's when The Borderlands ends.
