4. Bones and All
Bones and All revolves around teenage cannibal Maren (Taylor Russell), who tries to make a life for herself after her father abandons her. Befriending fellow cannibal Lee (Timothee Chalamet), the pair travel together, hoping to restart their broken lives.
Despite what the plot implies, Bones and All feels more like a coming-of-age saga. The central duo are surprisingly relatable, to the point where it's easy to forget they spend their days stripping the flesh from their victims with their bare teeth.
Humanising Lee and Maren works in the story's favour, since viewers are sure to find themselves getting invested in the pair's struggles, only to be repeatedly reminded how self-destructive they are. Try as they might, the two cannot escape their past, resulting in a surprisingly sweet but tragic romance.
Due to the unsettling subject matter, things are usually tense, but every time the self-proclaimed Eater, Sully (Mark Rylance), is on the scene, the tension shoots up to 11. Although Rylance always gives a commanding performance, this is the Academy Award-winning actor at his most terrifying.
Anyone expecting a traditional scary flick may think twice before sinking their teeth into Bones and All. Having said that, it's sure to satiate horror fans who crave an unconventional (and deeply messed up) love story.
