10 More Great Horror Movies Over 2 Hours Long
3. Bone Tomahawk
In this dark western, Sheriff Hunt (Kurt Russell) and his team are tasked with rescuing a group of locals kidnapped by flesh-eating savages.
S. Craig Zahler's directorial debut mostly plays out like a standard Western, focusing on conflicts within Hunt's ranks. Even though the dialogue-heavy scenes could drag, viewers should be thoroughly engaged thanks to the tight script and powerful performances across the board.
While there are some brutal moments, including a scene involving a leg being hacked off, the gore usually remains off-screen, but once Bone Tomahawk reaches the third act, it's a balls-to-the-wall horror until the credits roll.
Despite the fact most viewers should expect some grisliness from a cannibal story, nobody is anticipating the violence to be this uncensored. Once the barbarism reaches its peak, it genuinely feels like the ensemble have stumbled into Hell itself. The fact the filmmakers deliberately toned down the bloodshed for the first 90 minutes makes the closing massacre all the more spine-tingling.
Though Bone Tomahawk is a phenomenal feature, it will test the mettle of the biggest horror advocates. Don't say you weren't warned.
