George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson and Coen regular John Turturro play fugitives from a chain gang. Their goal in the film is simple: find the million or so dollars that Clooney's character, whose first name just happens to be Ulysses, had stolen before his arrest. Along the way, the band run into a Cyclopsian John Goodman and avoid seduction by stream Sirens. But the most memorable moments of this movie are bluegrass-related. The gang stumble into a recording studio and lay down a track called I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow. The band, under the moniker The Soggy Bottom Boys, become a national sensation. Similarly, the soundtrack to the film itself became a sensation, becoming octuple platinum and winning a Grammy Award in the year it was released. It's undeniable proof that when it's not being played by jingoist meatheads like Toby Keith, country music can actually be good. And speaking of some good country songs...
