10 More Great Teen Horror Movies (No One Ever Talks About)

4. The Final Girls (2015)

All Cheerleaders Die
Stage 6 Films

Every horror fan knows what a final girl is, and those same fans have probably spent many slasher viewings trying to guess who the final girl will be. For slasher enthusiasts, The Final Girls is a love letter made by filmmakers with a clear and deep affection for the subgenre. Best of all, it’s taking inspiration from Scream, one of the finest teen slashers of all time. This really is an absolute blast.

When Max and her friends go to see a screening of an old horror movie — one Max’s mom was involved in — the last thing they expected was to find themselves in the world of the movie itself. Now, they must use their knowledge of horror in order to survive.

The Final Girls feels like a celebration of everything we love about horror while also not being afraid to make fun of itself. It’s also really funny — you’ll be chuckling and laughing from start to finish — and it’s surprisingly touching at times. All in all, it’s charming and horror geeks who spent many nights marathoning Michael, Jason, or Freddy should find this one irresistible.
