10 More Hidden Gem Zombie Movies You've Probably Never Seen
6. Blood Quantum
Once upon a time, there was a breed of zombie movies that depicted average people struggling to deal not only with the consequences of an unexpected undead outbreak but also fellow survivors against a backdrop of societal subtext. They were primarily directed by the legendary George A. Romero, and many that followed barely even scratched the surface of the potential he unlocked. Well, in 2019 director Jeff Barnaby dared to dream, and the result was Blood Quantum.
Though it's a bit rough around the edges, like many indie movies, Blood Quantum delivers on everything one would expect from a zombie flick, whilst also bluntly demonstrating the devastating impact of colonialism on the existence of Native Americans.
It's one of the few zombie movies to have arrived in recent years that would most likely have received a seal of approval from the Godfather George A. Romero himself. It's brutal, bloody, and a brilliant watch, and another fine example of why more diverse voices in cinema is an exceptional thing.
