10 More Horror Movie Jump Scares You’ll NEVER Forget

1. Mullholland Drive - The Dumpster Dream

Mulholland Drive
Universal Pictures/Lynch

The Mullholland Drive dumpster dream features my favourite jump scare of all time, period.

David Lynch is a master filmmaker, and the great thing about this scene is that it actually spells out exactly what's going to happen, and yet it's still terrifying when you see it.

It concerns two people in a diner, one of whom - Dan - is explaining a nightmare he had the previous night to a pal.

He describes what went down: the pair were in the diner they're currently in, both frightened, and compelled to seek out a man out the back who's controlling the dream. The partner is initially unconvinced, but slowly becomes worried himself as to who - or what - might be out there.

In an attempt to prove that it's only a dream, they both go to where the man is supposed to be. As they approach, the tension builds, and the monster in the dream appears behind the wall in a startling scare.

Dan doubles over in fear, and you do too.
