8. John Dies At The End - John Dies At The End
If you thought calling a movie "John Dies at the End" was a massive spoiler, guess again.
Based on David Wong's novel of the same name, the quirky mind-bender revolves around two slackers, David and John, who find themselves unwittingly involved in a cosmic battle involving doomsday cults, alien deities, and talking dogs.
Throughout the story, David recounts these unhinged events to a skeptical journalist (and by extension, the audience). Due to being exposed to multiple realities and different timelines, it's apparent David is an unreliable narrator, so it's impossible to tell where his ludicrous story is going to go next. (Even he doesn't know half the time.) But if there's one thing that seems absolute, it's that John will kick the bucket in the final scene.
Or maybe not. After accidentally defeating an interdimensional entity during the climax, David and John are offered the chance to become gods but turn it down so they can return to their slacker lifestyles.
In hindsight, it makes sense John Dies at the End's title was an outright lie, considering every aspect of the story goes against the grain.
