10 MORE Horror Movie Moments Everyone Was Waiting For (That Never Happened)
7. Liam Neeson's Character Fights A Wolf - The Grey
In The Grey, Liam Neeson's John Ottway and his buddies find themselves trapped in the Alaskan wilderness after surviving a plane crash. When John discover a wolf pack is hunting his troop, he does all he can to return to civilisation.
Despite having plenty of action, The Grey is a survivalist thriller at the end of the day. More often than not, John's group is running or hiding from the wolves instead of fighting them. Also, there are plenty of moments where the film explores heavy themes, including grief, isolation, and suicide.
But based on the action-oriented promotions, The Grey looked like a blockbuster that would contain scenes of Liam Neeson going toe-to-paw with the wolves. Not only had the Northern-Irish actor reinvented himself as an action hero at the time, the trailer concluded with a shot of Neeson's character charging at the hounds, his fists taped with glass shards.
Though this moment does occur, it cuts to the credits immediately after, with the post-credits scene showing the aftermath of the battle.
The Grey is a terrific thriller but there's no question the marketing was deceptive.
