10 MORE Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It
6. Ghost Ship
Ghost Ship is best remembered for its awesome opening scene, set in 1962 aboard the ocean liner the Antonia Graza.
Passengers are dancing the night away, just as the hand of an unknown person pulls a lever, sending a spool of razor wire cutting across the deck.
Seconds later, we see dozens of passengers and crew members get cut in half, all in front of a young girl, Katie (Emily Browning), who is only spared because she was too short to get bisected by said wire.
As if this isn't traumatic enough for Katie, she's then got to endure the fact that she's now left, more or less alone, on a ship with dozens of corpses - a nightmare predicament for anyone, let alone a young child.
And it gets even worse once we learn that Katie is herself murdered after this, even if she ultimately resurfaces as a ghost to help the heroes.
