10 MORE Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It

5. Halloween: Resurrection

Few horror movie openings have ever infuriated a fanbase quite like Halloween: Resurrection, which kicked off by revealing that Michael Myers' "death" at the end of the last movie was a total sham.

We thought we saw Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) decapitate Mikey with an axe at the end of Halloween H20, but the start of Resurrection reveals that The Shape incapacitated a paramedic and switched clothes with him at the last minute, even crushing his larynx to make sure he couldn't cry out for help.

The film swiftly breezes past this retcon, almost as if embarrassed of how woefully contrived it is, only to piss fans off even more by having Michael re-emerge and kill Laurie.

But let's go back a little bit and pour one out for not only the poor paramedic, but his family, who have to find out their loved one was savagely attacked, mistaken for a serial killer, and then decapitated. There probably won't be an open-casket funeral, then.

In screenwriting terms the paramedic is really just a prop to bring Michael Myers back from the dead, but within the context of the story, he's a human being who died - at the hand of our hero no less. How, exactly, did Laurie react when she found out the truth?

Thankfully Resurrection was jettisoned from the franchise's continuity with 2018's sequel to the original 1978 movie, so you don't have to think too hard about this one.
