10 More Horror Movie Performances That Proved EVERYONE Wrong

7. Bill Pullman - The Serpent And The Rainbow

Cinephiles will recognise Bill Pullman from a lot of different places.

He was Tom Hanks' love rival in Sleepless in Seattle, the lead in David Lynch's mind-boggling Lost Highway, and one of the greatest fictional Presidents of all time, Thomas J. Whitmore in Independence Day.

Before he was giving speeches so rousing they could raise the dead, Pullman made his big breakthrough as the lead character in Spaceballs, Mel Brooks' irreverent take on sci-fi. Less than a year after this comedy tour de force, Pullman appeared in something completely different - a Wes Craven joint named The Serpent and the Rainbow.

Pullman plays an anthropologist who is sent on a mission to Haiti to recover a drug used in so-called "zombie" ceremonies. Whilst there, he encounters the full force of these ancient rituals and ends up embroiled in a battle against a villainous witch doctor.

This was a stark contrast to Pullman's Han Solo parody from a few months earlier, one that caught a lot of people off guard. He would go on to appear in more horror movies, such as Lake Placid, but the less said about that the better.
