10 More Horror Movie Reveals So Bad You Almost Walked Out

7. The Thing (2011)

John Carpenter's The Thing is often deemed by horror veterans to be a benchmark in atmosphere, artistic gore, and practical effects. Even though special effects have come a long way since, it seemed highly unlikely the visuals in the 2011 prequel would match its predecessor.

However, nobody expected the visuals to be this bad.

Although 2011's The Thing isn't great, you're urged to keep watching, just to see what the titular beast looks like. The way the shapeshifting alien appeared in Carpenter's version was so masterful, you feel obligated to see how this modern iteration pulled it off.

Sadly, the creature's grand unveiling this time around is ruined by pitiful CGI. The alien is so atrociously rendered, you never believe it's there or that the actors are interacting with anything. Each time the Thing mimics humans, it falls into uncanny valley territory, so every shot that's meant to be horrifying comes across as disappointingly cringey.

What's worse is that there are multiple times when a supposed human character is exposed as the Thing, but every one of these moments is tarnished by the fact the CGI barely looks finished.
