10 More Horror Movie Twists That Were Hiding In Plain Sight

2. Angel Heart

Last Night In Soho
Tri-Star Pictures

In Alan Parker's psychological thriller, sinister businessman Louis Cyphre hires private investigator Harry Angel to locate a crooner, Johnny Favourite.

During his investigation, Harry discovers Johnny was an occultist who sold his soul to Satan for fame. However, Johnny suffered facial disfiguration and amnesia soon after, so Harry has no idea where the client is or what he looks like.

When the PI discovers Johnny's dog tag with the name "Angel, Harold" stamped on it, he realises the man he's been searching for is himself. But it gets worse. Much worse. It turns out Cyphre always knew Harold was Johnny since he is the Devil. Now that Harold can remember his sins, Cyphre can finally collect his soul.

It's a heartbreaking twist, but it was spelt out early on. During one of their first meetings, Cyphre tells Harry that an egg is seen as a representation of the soul in certain cultures. He then takes a big bite out of an egg, highlighting that Harry's soul belongs to him.

Also, Harry should've figured out Lou Cypher's true identity from the get-go, considering his name is a play on "Lucifer".
