10 MORE Horror Movie Villains Who Broke Their Own Rules

7. Lamashtu - The Exorcist: Believer

Resident Evil The Final Chapter Red Queen
Universal

In the climax of The Exorcist: Believer, the demonic entity known as Lamashtu pulls quite the fast one on the parents of possessed girls Katherine (Olivia O'Neill) and Angela (Lidya Jewett).

The demon tells the parents they've got to choose one of the girls to live and one to die, and if they decide not to participate, both will die. After much hand-wringing, Katherine's father Tony (Norbert Leo Butz) picks her, only for it to be revealed that Tony was actually picking the child to kill, not to save.

And so, moments later Katherine is dragged to Hell while Angela is released from the demon's grip. Womp womp.

Now, while any horror fan worth their salt knows that demons aren't exactly paragons of honesty and virtue, this is an especially cruel gambit. It's not even like the demon was playing fair - its final words before Tony chose Katherine were, "Who's gonna make it?", and so by picking Katherine, it sure seemed like he was picking her to survive, not perish.

Why even offer a choice if you're just gonna betray it? Demons, man.
