10 More Horror Movies So Sad You Can Only Watch Them Once
6. Saint Maud
Saint Maud is one of those brilliantly traumatic horror movies that, when it finally, mercifully ends, you'll likely tell yourself, "Yeah, I'm good with one viewing for life."
Rose Glass' mesmerising directorial debut isn't merely a searing psychological horror film about the titular nurse (Morfydd Clark) who becomes dangerously determined to save the soul of her dying patient.
It's also a genuinely upsetting character study about a traumatised, depressed, isolated young woman struggling to find her place in the world, the consequences of which are ultimately extremely horrifying.
Even with a sensibly compact 84-minute runtime, Saint Maud packs a fierce punch courtesy of Glass' assured direction and, best of all, a deeply felt performance from Morfydd Clark.
Though audiences will probably figure out long before its grim conclusion that things aren't going to end well for Maud, this makes the outcome no less tough to watch.
