10 More Horror Movies That Gave Fans EXACTLY What They Wanted (And They Hated It)

2. Hellraiser Brings Kirsty Cotton Back For Hellseeker

Whereas Halloween has Laurie Strode, A Nightmare on Elm Street has Nancy Thompson, and Scream has Sidney Prescott, the Hellraiser franchise has Kirsty Cotton.

For the first two Hellraiser films - complete with a super-brief cameo in Hellraiser III - Ashley Laurence's Kirsty was the central protagonist of the series. Following Hellbound: Hellraiser II, though, the franchise veered away from Laurence's character as the attention was switched elsewhere.

Still, fans were eager to see Kirsty return in some form or fashion, and that's eventually what they got in 2002's Hellraiser: Hellseeker - a picture which arrived a whole 14 years after Kirsty's appearance in Hellraiser II.

Like so many of the Hellraiser films, Hellseeker was a bit of a stinker, and adding insult to injury was the treatment of Kirsty Cotton here. Shockingly, despite all of the noise over her long-awaited return, Kirsty was killed off during an opening act road accident; the picture's focus switching to her husband Trevor.

To make things worse, the final act would show that Kirsty hadn't actually died and had instead made a deal with Pinhead to kill three of Trevor's mistresses, his friend, and of course Trevor himself - with it revealed that Trevor had actually died during the film's opening moments.
