10 MORE Horror Movies That Will Make You Say WTF Did I Just Watch?

What makes Spring so strange is how disarmingly conventional it seems at first.

It opens with a young man, Evan, losing his mother, compelling him to travel to Italy to process his grief. When he falls for a beautiful woman called Louise, Evan believes they're destined for one another, oblivious she harbours a jaw-dropping secret.

Based on the set-up and title, there's zero indication Spring will venture into horror territory. In fact, it initially plays out like more a romantic drama, making Louise's true identity more mind-blowing.

Now, anyone well-versed in the genre should expect Louise to be revealed as a vampire, werewolf, or some other traditional monster. But Spring never goes down that route. Even when creature feature elements are introduced, nobody is ready for what direction the plot goes in.

To break conventions further, Spring never takes the plunge into full-blown horror. Even when the monstrous bombshell drops, it doesn't interrupt the love story, but instead elevates it. All stories need to follow a formula, but there's never been a movie quite like Spring, making it incredibly unpredictable.
