Universal Film Distribution Company

Friday the 13th inspired numerous slasher wannabes all vying for the box office crown. But only one would manage to stand out from the crowd of imitators and that is 1983's Sleepaway Camp. The film is best known for its twist ending that remains an iconic horror scene.

Angela Baker is the main protagonist of the film and is reeling from the trauma of losing her father and brother in a tragic boating accident. Upon entering Camp Arawak, things get worse for her when she is bullied by her peers and is even almost assaulted by the camp cook. But then, an unseen killer starts taking out her tormenters one by one in gruesome ways.

Near the climax of the film, only Angela and handful of others remain where we find out the true nature of our heroine. Years ago, it was Angela who drowned in the fateful accident and her brother Peter was the survivor. Having been taken in by his aunt who always wanted a girl, Peter became Angela.

In the end, Angela - once Peter - is revealed as the killer of Camp Arawak, making for one of the most shocking closing shots in slasher history.
