10 More Horror Movies You Constantly Have To Defend Loving
5. Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
Convincing a sceptical friend to watch Repo! The Genetic Opera tends to go a little something like this.
"Isn't this cool? It has singing and violence! Right, yes, the editing is quite bad. Okay, sure, it is tonally jarring. I agree; the plot is jumbled. Yes, the lip-syncing is noticeably awful. Please, stop!"
The movie is a lot of fun, but it harbours a host of filmmaking issues that will put some people off. As if that wasn't bad enough, it also comes in right off the bat with a tough sell due to its incredibly niche format.
Repo! The Genetic Opera is a fully sung rock opera horror. It is set in a twisted world where the majority of the population has died of organ failure, and a company (GeneCo) loans healthy organs for a price. If you can't pay, then the Repo Man is coming.
It can be really tough to be a fan of this bizarre film, as you've got to defend the wacky concept to those who haven't seen it and the technical limitations to those who have. But it's worth it!
