Important Off Screen Deaths
Marvel Studios

When Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away in 2020, it rocked the entire world. Black Panther had been nothing short of a cultural phenomenon, while the actor himself was universally known as a hero just as much off the screen as he portrayed on it.

His death posed a difficult question for Marvel Studios in regards to how T'Challa would be handled moving forward. A recast was quickly ruled out, and the decision was ultimately made to have the King of Wakanda die in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

T'Challa ultimately lost his battle against an unknown illness in the opening scenes of the Black Panther sequel in what is unquestionably one of the most emotional moments, not just in MCU history, but in recent movie memory. The scene was handled beautifully, as Shuri (Letitia Wright) struggled against panic to save her brother's life before her mother came and told her that he had passed.

More than just a send-off to a beloved fictional character, it felt like a goodbye to Chadwick Boseman. making this one of the most affecting off-screen deaths ever depicted.
