Every now and then there will be a huge crossover between two cinematic titans. Alien Vs Predator, Godzilla Vs Kong, Batman Vs Superman. Hell, there has even recently been a Transformers GI Joe crossover announced. Then there is Freddy Vs Jason.

Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) and Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger) are two of the biggest names in the entire horror genre, and after seven and 10 movies each respectively, putting them together seemed like a no-brainer. Though the crossover was ultimately met with a lukewarm reception in 2003, there was at least some big dumb pleasure that could be taken from it, even if it could have been a lot better.

After their clash, the final fight saw Jason seemingly victorious as he was carrying the severed head of Freddy in his hand. However, one quick wink to the audience from Mr. Krueger, and all of a sudden the entire scene is thrown into question. What exactly did it mean?

The answer comes in a comic book that is technically a canonical follow up to the movie, and that throws another horror legend into the mix in The Evil Dead's Ash Williams. According to Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash, after the events of the Krueger Voorhees fight, the former was trapped inside the latter's mind until he was able to utilise the power of the Necronomicon to restore himself to full power, with a little bit extra. Ash however, ultimately defeated them both.
