Moana takes place in a world where the sea is a sentient being with a conscience and a sense of humour, demigods and shapeshifters walk the earth, and mountains are actually people. You could argue that in an environment like this, there isn't too much that would be out of the realms of possibility.

It almost goes without saying that Maui wouldn't be the only demigod around, and Moana may have crossed paths with another on her travels. This theory suggests that none other than Heihei the chicken fits this bill.

The little bird is mainly used in the film for comic relief, however there is evidence to show that there is far more than meets the eye. Moana even says as much to the old man who wants to eat him at the beginning of the film, and the titular hero may be more right than she realised.

Heihei looks exactly the same during the events of the story as when Moana was a child, so he doesn't age. He should have died many times throughout, though 'fortunes smiles' on him and he survives everything. He is also proven to be too stupid to eat unless force-fed, suggesting that he may not even need to eat to survive, almost like he is kept alive magically. So, perhaps Heihei is something of another guardian sent to watch over the one that was chosen by the ocean.
