1. Night Has Fallen
The "Has Fallen" action thriller franchise has been a quiet little cash cow for Gerard Butler, with the three movies released to date - Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen - collectively grossing over $520 million worldwide against a sensibly contained total budget of $170 million.
This trilogy once again confirmed the profitability of the responsibly budgeted "Dad Movie," and so it was little surprise that shortly after Angel's release in 2019, producers confirmed plans for three more movies.
By November 2020, the fourth film was revealed to be titled Night Has Fallen, but development was put indefinitely on ice in 2021 when Butler filed a lawsuit against production companies Millennium Media and Nu Image, alleging that he was owed more than $10 million in profits from the franchise.
As the lawsuit played out development on the sequel hung in limbo, but last October the matter was finally resolved, after which producers confirmed that production was expected to begin sometime in 2024.
If Night Has Fallen shoots later in the year for a 2025 release, it'll arrive an entire six years after the last film, though given that Butler has carved out a warm niche for himself in the junky action-thriller market, one suspects audiences will still be there for it.
