10 More Movie Sequels You Have No Idea Were Just Released

9. Book Club: The Next Chapter

Unlike most of the sequels on this list, here's one which actually secured a legit, wide theatrical release, yet you'd barely know it.

2018's Book Club - a comedy about four ageing women who read Fifty Shades of Grey for their book club - was basically harmless froth propped up by the charms of stars Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen.

However, it was also a surprise box office smash, grossing over $100 million against a mere $14 million budget, ensuring that a sequel was swiftly given the greenlight.

But did you know that it had already come and gone?

Indeed, Book Club: The Next Chapter casually strolled into cinemas this past May with a bizarre lack of fanfare given the original's shock success, and though received about as well as its predecessor critically, it failed to land with audiences.

The sequel ended up grossing just $27.6 million - barely a quarter of what the original did - and while the box office landscape is of course very different post-pandemic, this certainly seemed like a movie primed to bring older audiences back to the multiplexes.

Instead, Book Club: The Next Chapter arrived on a wave of indifference and made barely any impact whatsoever, enough that you probably didn't even realise it was out yet.
