10 More Movie Sequels You Have No Idea Were Just Released
8. Night At The Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again
We as a society seemingly agreed that the Night at the Museum franchise was done after the release of 2014's third film, Secret of the Tomb, which grossed less at the box office than both prior films.
A trilogy of decent-if-unremarkable adventure films that all turned a profit - what's to hate, right?
Well, because Disney is hell-bent on strip-mining every last scrap of "IP" left in their war chest for Content, of course they went back to the Night at the Museum well.
But rather than produce a cheap-o live-action sequel for Disney+ as they've done with other hit franchises like Home Alone and Cheaper by the Dozen, the Mouse House opted to develop a fourth Night at the Museum that was purely animated - with none of the original cast returning to lend their voices.
Between this and the fact that Disney barely advertised the straight-to-Disney+ movie at all, it was reasonable to expect the worst, yet the film is at least a relatively harmless, mildly amusing animated romp that hardly besmirches the not-remotely-precious legacy of the original live-action trilogy.
All the same, it's yet another Disney sequel produced not because somebody had a great creative idea - but to placate shareholders while reminding audiences that a franchise exists.
