10 More Movie Sequels You Have No Idea Were Just Released

If you've got a Netflix account, there's a good chance you eventually stumbled across The Wandering Earth - 2019's Chinese sci-fi mega-blockbuster which became a mammoth box office hit in its home nation while being released direct to the streaming platform internationally.

The nutty plot, about a group of astronauts attempting to propel the Earth away from an expanding Sun primed to annihilate it, made it something of a viral sensation on social media, and despite its less-than-stellar script, it certainly offered up its fair share of visually stunning tentpole mayhem.

Yet did you know that a second film, The Wandering Earth II, was released in China back in January? Probably not, given that it's still without a global release and, unlike its predecessor, hasn't yet been picked up by a streaming platform.

Now technically speaking, The Wandering Earth II is actually a prequel focused on the events leading up to the first movie, though given its numerical titling it unsurprisingly lends swaths of additional context to the original story.

Director Frant Gwo has already confirmed that he's hard at work on a third film, though fans shouldn't expect it until at least 2027, by which point The Wandering Earth II will presumably (hopefully?) have found a home internationally.
