8. The Trench

A "horror-tinged" spin-off of Aquaman has reportedly been in development since 2019 following the monstrous success of that film. Jason Mamoa and his underwater muscles grossed over $1billion worldwide, and a direct sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is due for Christmas 2023.

Aquaman vs Willy Wonka. Now there's a fight we'd all love to see.

The Trench appeared in the first Aquaman movie as a hazardous underwater region that the titular hero has to navigate on his quest to retrieve the trident of Atlan. It's a bit like that scene in Finding Nemo with all the jellyfish, but instead of getting stung, you get eaten.

In 2020, Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick said on Twitter that the movie was going to be set between Aquaman 1 and 2. Does this mean it's going to come out before the sequel, then? Unlikely, as that's the most recent update we have on it.

But hey! The Trench hasn't been officially cancelled yet, so it is still technically on its way. As for when it might surface, the answer to that is as mysterious as the ocean itself.
