10 More Movies That Eerily Predicted Things In Real Life
9. Contagion - A World-Wide Pandemic
There's a reason this film became one of the most popular features to indulge in around the time of March 2020, and it's because Steven Soderbergh's pandemic thriller Contagion pretty much got what unfolded over the last year or so spot-on.
Focusing on how the planet would handle the rapid spreading of a deadly virus and an all-out pandemic back in 2011, the phrase "social distancing" and the sight of supermarkets being wiped out during the height of the panic felt disturbingly close to home by the time the coronavirus gripped the globe in March of last year.
Also, the disease depicted in Contagion, by the name of MEV-1, originated in animals, specifically a bat, before passing over to humans. Whilst COVID-19 was thought to have had a similar journey in its early origins.
Since the film's renewed popularity in 2020, the movie's screenwriter Scott Z. Burns has stated, "I didn’t have a crystal ball - I had access to great expertise. So, if people find the movie to be accurate, it should give them confidence in the public health experts who are out there right now trying to guide us."
