10 More Movies & TV Shows You Can No Longer Watch
4. Happiness
Todd Solondz's black comedy masterpiece Happiness is one of the most brilliantly provocative films of the entire 1990s - a bold and unsurprisingly controversial film topped by the outstanding efforts of a superb ensemble cast, including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jane Adams, Dylan Baker, Jon Lovitz, and Lara Flynn Boyle.
Despite its often shockingly frank engagement with the darker aspects of humanity, Happiness has remained highly acclaimed in the quarter-century since its release, which makes it all the more infuriating that it remains locked away on DVD.
Indeed, Happiness has never been released on Blu-ray nor can it be seen on any streaming service, the latter likely a result of its prickly subject matter. As such, it remains the textbook definition of a hidden gem confined to an outdated video format.
But with boutique distributor Radiance Films recently releasing Solondz's previous film, Welcome to the Dollhouse, on Blu-ray, one can only hope that they'll also see value in bringing his follow-up back into the light.
