10 More Movies Where People Died On Set

7. Hell's Angels

While most people associate the Hell's Angels with the motorbike outlaw gang, fewer might realise their alleged origin. Formed by disenfranchised pilots who rode their motorcycles around and off base, they may be a far cry from that today but anyone with an interest would do well to pick up Hunter S Thompson's book on them for some truly interesting reading.

The film we are looking at was shot in 1930 and doesn't have much to do with motorbikes. Following the lives of two brothers and their struggles through the war from Britain to Germany and beyond, it does feature a lot of aerial combat footage and this is where the deaths occurred.

A total of four people died during filming, consisting of three pilots and an engineer. One collided with overhead lines. Another crashed a plane he was delivering, killing an additional pilot in the process. Later, the engineer failed to safely bail from an aircraft he was in which was being crash landed for shooting and died as well.

Interestingly, Paul Mantz (the man who lost his life shooting entry three) was the principal stunt pilot here and in fact advised against another shot where a further man nearly died.
