10 More Movies Where The Reshoots Were Painfully Obvious

47 Ronin is a movie that was dogged by issues from the very beginning. From whitewashing allegations to squandered budgets and directorial departures, the fantasy-action hybrid was destined to be a car crash.

Unsurprisingly, the fans hated the final product as much as the critics and it bombed at the box office. There were many factors behind its abject failure, and one of them was staggeringly expensive reshoots.

After the initial cut was in the can, Universal pulled director Carl Rinsch from the project and studio exec Donna Langley headed up post-production and those aforementioned reshoots. Her agenda was to apparently get as much bonus Keanu Reeves into the final cut as possible, and it's clear his extra scenes were tacked on.

The extra Reeves came at the expense of many of 47 Ronin's Japanese cast members and basically diluted the story, since much of the plot doesn't revolved around his character, Kai.

A weird mashup of samurais and dragons was always going to be difficult to follow, but when entire scenes are tossed out so the A-lister can steal the spotlight there's nothing down for the story.
