Final Destination is the slasher franchise that pits people against Death himself. The premise is simple, a visionary receives a premonition of a deadly accident and warns everyone else. A handful of survivors escape before the disaster occurs but are then killed in gruesome accidents. But before the sequels made the rules clear, the 2000 original had some ideas that were dropped in subsequent films.

In the series' first death, Tod Waggner slips on leaking toilet water and falls on a clothesline. This causes him to drop into the bathtub as the wire starts to choke him harder with the shampoo making it difficult to stand up. Despite his best efforts, he suffocates and dies but Death isn't done there.

The Grim Reaper then manipulates the water to go back to the toilet in order to make Tod's accident look like a suicide. This causes his parents to blame protagonist Alex Browning for the death of their son.

Death covering its tracks would be an element abandoned for the rest of the film and leaves more questions than answers. Was Death just afraid of being caught and going to jail?
