10 More Out Of Place Scenes In Horror Movie History
7. Kung Fu Cowboys - Hellraiser V: Inferno
Hellraiser is a series of horror films known for their nightmarish imagery and atmosphere with iconic characters such as Pinhead and the Cenobites. But the series, much like several horror franchises, devolved into films of questionable quality with Hellraiser V: Inferno being the first of many direct-to-DVD sequels.
The film focuses on Detective Joseph Thorne who unleashes the iconic puzzle box that gives him bizarre hallucinations. While chasing a suspect in the woods, our protagonist encounters Cenobites which is fitting for the franchise. What is not fitting is the arrival of a gang of Asian cowboys who attack Thorne with martial arts moves and proceed to give him a beating. The sequence is so odd as the fight scene feels more at home with something like Mortal Kombat rather than Hellraiser.
Recently, however, Inferno has received a second look for its psychological aspect similar to Silent Hill and Jacob's Ladder. It also helps that this was Scott Derrickson's first film who'd go on to do movies such as Sinister and Doctor Strange. Unfortunately, this scene remains too distracting and feels like a gratuitous action sequence tacked on to the film.
