6. Alien Resurrection
Alien Resurrection isn't a bad movie. Now before you all start kicking your computer monitors just hear us out. The ideas presented in the 4th installment of the Alien franchise are pretty decent and some of the sequences such as the underwater chase are stunning it's just that the film was - according to Joss Whedon - butchered in post production beyond all recognition. Set centuries after the events of Alien 3 this film focuses on a cloned version of Ellen Ripley who is once again trapped on board a spacecraft that is overrun with those big bad Xenomorph's that have caused her so much hassle in the past. This time though her DNA has been mixed with that of her enemy allowing her to think like them, to fight like them and ultimately to empathise with them. It's a far cry from the intense, claustrophobic feel of the original two movies but you can see why it looked good on paper. The one thing that proved the franchise was about to be jettisoned into space comes at the end when the half alien half human hybrid creature makes its appearance and wants a cuddle with its momma. Looking like ET on a bad day the hybrid is one of the all time worst alien creatures ever seen on the big screen and was just too much for the paying public to get on board with. Mercifully the series was laid to rest straight after but it didn't prevent the horrible AVP movies from stinking up cinemas for years after.
