Since its inception in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become known for many things. From Stan Lee cameos to a near perfect balance between humour and action, there have always been certain things to be expected from every single release. Of course, the post-credit scenes are at the top of this list.

Such scenes have been ever-present in the franchise, and as time has gone on with the universe growing larger and larger, they have taken on even more anticipation and importance. Still, they can range from major teases for the future of the MCU right down to something more for one last chuckle before leaving the cinema.

Spider-Man: Homecoming took the approach of the latter for its second post-credit scene, even going so far as to make a joke at the audience’s expense. Knowing people the world over would have sat waiting patiently for ten minutes to see the final scene of the movie, Jon Watts had Captain America basically tell them they wasted their time.

Sometimes you wait a long time for something and the pay off just isn’t there. Yes, this was hilarious, but it did test the patience of everyone watching by essentially wasting their time and then laughing that their time had been wasted.
