10 MORE Times The MCU Betrayed Your Trust
5. The Sinister Five (Spider-Man: No Way Home)
In the broadest sense, Spider-Man: No Way Home was everything fans wanted it to be, in that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield joined Tom Holland on screen as the first ever live action Spider-Verse movie. However, it wasn’t perfect, and there were a couple of areas that let fans down.
Who wasn’t excited when the news broke that Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx would be reprising their villainous roles from previous Spider-Man franchises in the MCU? When the trailers then confirmed that Doc Oc and Electro would be joined by Lizard, Sandman, and Green Goblin, there was a lot of buzz around the antagonistic team.
Of course, famously Spider-Man has gone up against the Sinister Six throughout his years in Marvel Comics, and with five of his rogues gallery confirmed for the movie, surely there would be one more surprise reveal in the film. A picture released on social media of Tom Hardy wearing a No Way Home hat set fans’ sights on Venom, but his role was relegated to a post-credit scene and no interaction with any Peter Parker at all.
Though it seemed certain Marvel Studios wouldn’t miss an opportunity like this to bring a version of the Sinister Six together, there were no more surprise villains introduced. No Kraven the Hunter, no Rhino, nothing. A wasted opportunity in the eyes of many.
