10 MORE Times The MCU Betrayed Your Trust
3. Zemo's Mask (The Falcon & The Winter Soldier)
With his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Zemo played a big part in the Phase Three renaissance of MCU villains. Daniel Brühl played a compelling villain, and though his plan was ludicrously convoluted, he was a welcome addition to the franchise.
There was just one thing missing from the character’s first MCU appearance, which was a comic accurate costume. Baron Zemo is instantly recognisable on the pages of Marvel Comics thanks to his infamous purple mask, something that was completely absent from Civil War.
This looked to be rectified when the character returned after a five year absence, and the iconic purple mask was a part of the marketing for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Understandably, fans were excited to see the comic accurate costume, but were left incredibly disappointed.
Zemo didn’t show up until half way through the series anyway, and when he did, he wore his mask only for one scene, and even then there was absolutely no explanation offered. Why bother giving him the mask at all if this was all that was planned for it? It seemed to be included for other reason than fan service, but missed the mark completely.
