10 More Upcoming Movie Performances Doomed To Fail
6. Dwayne Johnson As Maui - Moana Live-Action Remake
While a sequel to the smash hit Disney animated adventure known as Moana was always inevitable, something that was not as expected was news of a live-action remake eventually being released on July 10, 2026.
This being a movie that only came out in 2016, was anyone really desperate to see the beloved tale retold or "reimagined" so soon?
Well, yes. At least one person anyway, and his name is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
In a move that is arguably just as bizarre as the decision to green-light the remake in the first place, Johnson will be returning as Maui the demigod in that film, too.
No one can deny that Johnson crushed his voice role in the original picture. However, there's a strong chance that this return to the part in live-action will just end up feeling like a lazy repeat of what viewers have already seen. Or worse, an inferior and less animated portrayal of the iconic trickster (based on his own grandfather) - one also boasting a silly big hook and dodgy wig - that just becomes Johnson's latest Hollywood failure.
It's not hard to see why Johnson is reattaching himself to one of his most adored franchises and roles (he'll also be returning in Moana 2), with the star likely desperate for an easy win after the box office disaster that was Black Adam. But this live-action performance may actually be a riskier move than 'The Great One' anticipated.
