10 More Upcoming Movie Performances Doomed To Fail
5. Robert Downey Jr. As Doctor Doom - Avengers: Doomsday
Another actor bafflingly returning to a franchise in the coming years, Robert Downey Jr. will be making his MCU comeback in 2026.
Marvel Studios obviously needed to change things up following a string of rather disappointing Multiverse Saga releases and Kang actor Jonathan Major's harassment and abuse conviction. But rather than throw out a piece of inspired or bold casting news after choosing to rework Avengers: The Kang Dynasty into Avengers: Doosmday, Kevin Feige and co. went for the most perplexing and simultaneously safe move imaginable when picking their Doctor Doom.
Fully prepared to risk undermining the moving way Tony Stark's story was brought to an end in Endgame, the Russo Brothers and Feige lazily emptied a lorry full of cash on RDJ's door to bring back what they surely saw as a way to almost guarantee bums in seats.
It'll likely do exactly that, too. But even if Downey Jr. unleashes a mesmerising performance as the iconic villain, it's still a decision that causes more unnecessary headaches and silliness than just casting someone new and intriguing in the part.
Is he an evil Stark variant? Maybe he won't even take off the mask, and if that's the case then why bother bringing Downy Jr. back at all?
The whole thing screams of desperation and could (somewhat appropriately) send RDJ's Marvel legacy crashing to its doom should his comeback be as poorly executed as many of the other post-Endgame MCU entries.
