10 More Upcoming Movies That Are In Big Trouble

8. Emancipation

Mario Movie Direct
Apple Studios

Back when Antoine Fuqua and Will Smith initially set out to tell the story of an enslaved man escaping from slavery and evading cold-blooded hunters in Louisiana, the pair and Apple Studios had every reason to believe Emancipation could catapult everyone involved to further awards season acclaim.

However, the sight of the film's Oscar-winning star delivering a very real slap to Chris Rock on the Academy Award's stage this year may just have a catastrophic effect on both the film's chances at winning big during the upcoming awards period and the way the project is received by the average movie fan.

It must be noted that initial reactions to Fuqua's flick, that he himself classes as "the best thing I’ve ever done", have been largely positive, with many celebrating the director and his leading man's work during its first screening.

But with Smith himself being banned from attending the Oscars for ten years in the wake of his controversial actions in February, you have to imagine the Academy and perhaps other organisations won't be in too much of a rush to celebrate the work of a star who isn't even allowed to be present at the prestigious ceremony itself next year.

And whether that impacts the chances of Emancipation picking up honours in other categories during the 2023 awards season in general is another question that'll no doubt be answered on the back of its December 2022 release.
