10 Most Annoying Animated Movie Characters

5. The Minions

Minions The Rise of Gru Otto
Universal Pictures

Familiarity breeds contempt. The little yellow creations started as fun sidekicks in the enjoyable Despicable Me. The sequels for this film weren't too bad either, continuing the narrative of the criminal mastermind Gru and his trio of orphan adoptees well. But as they went along, the popularity of these creatures utterly skyrocketed, meaning - like Olaf - that you couldn't escape them. Even now, you see them everywhere.

They had some deliberately irritating charm at first. Designed to be a clowning foil to Gru's plans gave them an interesting place in the plot. Unfortunately this never really evolved and the characters existed to make annoying noises and cause hi-jinks for the cast.

The adoption of these creatures into popular culture meant that they instantly became over-saturated and never featured any real development. People liked the joke, so they stuck to it and never gave it a chance to evolve. This ended up leaving the characters always visible and inescapable.

Even Alvin and the Chipmunks had the decency to fade into obscurity, but even now you can still see minions everywhere.
