9. Insidious: The Red Door

Last Voyage Of The Dementer

Insidious: Chapter 2 concluded with Josh Lambert's family repressing their memories of The Further. Although it looked like Josh was done with all things paranormal - as the franchise moved on to other characters with Insidious 2 and Insidious: The Last Key - nothing could be further from the truth.

In Insidious: The Red Door, Josh's son, Dalton, finds himself being plagued by demonic visions, shortly after moving to college. To protect Dalton from this devilish entity, Josh is forced to reawaken his repressed memories.

James Wan and Leigh Whannell's Insidious saga may have gone downhill recently, but this entry could set things right. Unlike the last two instalments, The Red Door is bringing back the whole cast, rather than focusing on the character of Elise Rainer. Because it's going back to basics, it feels like this outing has a chance of recapturing the magic (and terror) of the original.

However, the main reason why fans should check The Red Door out is because it's the directorial debut of its lead, Patrick Wilson. Considering Wilson has played a key role in almost ten horror films, he should be more than qualified to put together his own supernatural feature.

Although some moviegoers can be dubious when an actor turns to directing, it's worked out astoundingly well in recent years, especially in the horror department. After seeing the success of Jordan Peele's Get Out, John Krasinski's A Quiet Place, and Zach Cregger's Barbarian, you can't help be curious to see what Wilson pulls off.
