5. Crawl
Combining all the scariest parts of nature, Crawl is simply described on IMDb as "A young woman, while attempting to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators." If hurricanes and alligators didn't sound scary enough on their own, then Alexandre Aja is here to throw them in together and make something far worse. It's The Wizard of Oz meets Crocodile Dundee flavoured with some serious Jaws in your basement vibes.
Aja himself has a back catalogue which could go either way - the underrated Horns with Harry Potter himself in 2013 was as weird as it was whimsical, The Hills Have Eyes remake was serviceable, and Mirrors was a great Hollywood horror. But he's also the mind behind cult favourite High Tension, and most importantly: Piranha 3D.
If this water-based scarefest doesn't get self-referential in some way, we'll be sorely disappointed.
