10 Most Anticipated Summer Blockbusters Of 2017
6. Wonder Woman
Release date: 2nd June
The first thing you notice about the trailer for Wonder Woman is how much it differs visually from its DCEU brethren. Gone are the turgid grey scenes wherein brooding men have to squint to see each other and resort to shouting instead. They’ve been replaced by lush beaches and shimmering waterfalls, with a gold-blue colour palette and grimy fantastical World War II aesthetic that feels more in line with Captain America: The First Avenger than any other superhero movie (between this, Dunkirk, and Rogue One, it does feel like “fight them on the beaches” has become Hollywood’s go-to cinematographic prompt).
A lot of people are cautiously optimistic that Wonder Woman will be the DCEU’s saving grace, since most tend to agree that Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck’s Batman were about the only things worth seeing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Gal Gadot makes her return in the eponymous role, while Chris Pine plays love interest and US fighter pilot Steve Trevor, who finds himself washed up on the shore of Wonder Woman's home of Themyscira.
