10 Most Anxiety-Inducing Horror Movie Scenes EVER
5. Limbo - The Lodge
What can only be described as Hereditary on ice, The Lodge is a nasty, gritty little horror-show that makes light work of any watcher's resolve by the climax of the movie. Honestly, this is not a nice film, and it makes sure you know that by reminding you time and time again throughout the narrative.
To get to our stress-laden scene, we have to first manoeuvre a storyline that sees fiancee Grace sent to bond with her partner's children - who lost their mother to suicide - in an isolated lodge whilst he's away working, intending to return in a few days.
One thing leads to another, and Grace believes herself to be dead and trapped in purgatory after a freak accident. Only, it's later revealed to be a trick by the resentful kids, who have caused her complete nervous breakdown. Good thing Richard left his gun in the lodge though, right?
And then we find ourselves trapped in our own hellish limbo of anxiety as Richard returns, finding Grace wielding a firearm and believing no one can die. It's a kicker of a scene that has been intelligently built up through an unrelentingly bleak story, and one that needs to be watched in its entirety to get the full spine-chilling impact. Don't say I didn't warn you.
